The Volkswagen ID. Polo that revealed early details last December has now shown its interior, and the upcoming, MEB+-based electric hatchback will feature an increased use of physical buttons for key functions.
Set to be the first of four new EVs that the German manufacturer will release this year, the ID. Polo brings a cabin environment that “focuses on even more intuitive operation.” This includes displays with clear information and tidy menu structures, more buttons for direct functions, a multi-function steering wheel with physical buttons, and the adoption of familiar Volkswagen operating patterns, said the carmaker.
Its display setup is comprised of a 10.25-inch driver’s instrumentation display and a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, complemented by separate buttons for climate control functions and hazard lights in a strip below the touchscreen. A rotary controller for audio playback-related functions is located on the centre console between the smartphone tray and the cupholders.
In a nod to its heritage, the driver’s instrument display of the ID. Polo can also bring up a layout modelled after that of the first-generation Golf with its twin instrument dials and information display.
“We have created an interior that feels like a friend from the very first contact. Clear physical buttons provide stability and trust, warm materials make it appealing, and charming details such as the new retro views of the instruments show the typical Volkswagen wink,” said Volkswagen chief designer Andreas Mindt.
Previously revealed with exterior dimensions of being 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide and 1,530 mm tall with a 2,600 mm wheelbase, the ID. Polo is comparable in size to the combustion-engined, MQB-based Polo Mk6, which is 4,053 mm long, 1,751 mm wide and 1,446 mm tall with a 2,564 mm wheelbase.
