The Kedah road transport department (JPJ) has issued 4,513 saman after inspecting 13,902 commercial vehicles under Ops Perang Lebih Muatan that has been conducted since October, Bernama reports. The operation, which runs up to year-end, targets errant commercial vehicles and drivers, particularly to do with overloading.
“The operation involves Kedah, Penang and Perlis and was carried out in phases, namely in Penang from November 17-23, Kedah from November 24-30, and as an integrated northern zone operation from December 19-21,” Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam told a press conference yesterday, adding that 45 of the 4,513 saman issued were for overloading, including three cases where loads were over the allowed limit by 50%.
“So far, three vehicles have been forfeited during the operation – one in Penang and two in Kedah. Overall, six vehicles have been forfeited in Kedah from June to December this year,” he said, adding that 60 enforcement officers were deployed in each phase, involving mobile patrols and static operations at strategic locations, including logistics routes and high-risk areas for overloading.
Meanwhile, he said saman collection in Kedah from the start of 2025 to date totalled RM23,399,865, with RM20,049,665 collected through compounds and RM3,350,200 via court proceedings.
