The forthcoming Proton X90 MC1 facelift has been sighted on Malaysian roads, courtesy of paultan.org reader with the screen name Arashikage.
From the supplied images, it appears that this example continues to wear the current model‘s front fascia beneath its camouflage foil, with the current model’s alloy wheels also seen here. Its exterior dimensions therefore can expected to be unchanged, at 4,835 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,785 mm tall with a 2,815 mm wheelbase.
The X90 is just two-and-a-half years old in the market, having been launched in May 2023, and so Proton’s three-row SUV is not likely to receive a comprehensive visual makeover as the Geely Haoyue L has done, so the X90 is more likely to carry on with its present-day look. For instance, the X50 received its major update just this year, five years since the original was launched.
From the Proton Tech Showcase that was held by the national carmaker earlier this month, we know that the three-row SUV, among other upcoming models, will receive the 1.5 i-GT turbocharged four-cylinder engine as featured in the Proton X50 facelift that was launched in July this year.
This powerplant outputs 181 PS and 290 Nm, and in the X50 facelift it is paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels. This will however do without the 48-volt mild-hybrid system of the current X90 that is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, making 190 PS and 300 Nm.
Time will tell if the interior will be as unchanged as its exterior, though for reference, the Geely Haoyue L facelift that was revealed last month gets a different dashboard with a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and 10.2-inch driver’s instrument display; the current X90 uses a 12.3-inch infotainment unit.
The Haoyue L facelift also sports a different centre console arrangement, where the transmission selector is side-by-side with the pair of cupholders. While the Geely model is offered with either five, six or seven seats, the Proton X90’s positioning is likely to have it continue with a three-row configuration.

Low sales volume + high facelift frequencies = high chances of part shortage.
this is welcomed news, for me. I like the X90 exterior and all, but wasn’t keen to buy a 3-cylinder engine. Glad I waited.
Exactly. I like X90 3 row seats but 3cyl engine is a deal breaker
The car has been around for more than 2 years, and from this article it seems no major exterior update. Even the replacement / updated model already launched overseas (which we might not get, according to this article). So if just do road testing for the new drivetrain, still need to do “camo wrap” ka? Hihi
Still dare to sell at 130k? This model is a failure.
No changes on the exterior why the camouflage?
3-cylinder is the best!

I doubt X90 is profitable to proton based on such small volume push out. Now forced to go update. Is this a profitable venture to localised?
What are the advantages or disadvantages buying MPV with non-slinding doors type of back passengers doors?
LOL The only advantage it looks nothing like a VAN
not everybody wants sliding doors.
I don’t think engine option was the main issue with the X90. I think it was too big with a price too close to more established Japanese offerings. Nobody willing to spend X90 money was thinking I really need the space, so they easily defaulted to the HRV or another Chinese car with better goodies.
It needs a price change, not an engine one. Price it close to the Aruz and you’d have something there. A hybrid (even a subpar one) selling in that market would kill the competitors. People buying the Aruz/Alza/Veloz/Expander are the ones that want the space.
Unless priced way lower, I really doubt MC1 X90 will see any significant boost.
japs dont have any 7-seat MPV at RM130k price range so that leaves X90 in a class of its own. it failed because of the stupid 48v mild hybrid with potential to catch fire as happened couple of times during launch.
back to the tried, tested and reliabale 4 cyclinder engine
Just sumbat in new x50 engine removes the caught fire battery to clear off chassis parts. The remaining 3 cylinder timing belt engine sumbat into x70 then export to nepal.
