The Kelantan road transport department (JPJ) has raked in RM167,560 by auctioning 113 vehicles, Bernama reports, with its director Mohd Misuari Abdullah revealing that 114 bidders took part and that the two highest bids were RM15,500 for a MINI Cooper and RM12,100 for a Yamaha RX-Z.
“This public auction programme aims not only to reduce the number of unclaimed vehicles at the JPJ Kelantan vehicle impound depot but also serves as a means to generate government revenue through a legitimate and transparent process,” he told reporters yesterday, adding that JPJ-seized vehicles are only auctioned after having gone through the proper process and provided the owner does not claim them within a stipulated period.
Recently, Selangor JPJ auctioned off 175 motorcycles, eight cars, seven panel vans, nine rigid lorries and one prime mover under its third and final vehicle public auction for 2025, raking in RM277,030 to surpass the RM133,580 overall reserve. Two earlier auctions this year collected RM313,140 from 243 vehicles.
