Dark-themed edition cars are a trend in Thailand, and Honda is getting in on the action with the City e:HEV The Black Outshine. Priced at 735,000 baht (about RM94k), The Black Outshine is based on the existing e:HEV SV variant of the B-segment sedan and comes with various aesthetic tweaks reflective of its name.
These include black Honda logos front and rear, with the latter also getting a ‘City’ emblem in the dark hue. Similarly, the 16-inch alloy wheels, door handles and side mirror caps are painted black, while the grille follows the RS’ design and is accompanied by a black upper trim piece.
Beyond these visual changes, the rest of the car is pretty much unchanged from a standard e:HEV SV. Honda’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system remains present with an electric motor rated at 109 PS (107 hp or 80 kW) and 253 Nm to drive to the front wheels.
Power for the electric motor is supplied by a lithium-ion battery that is charged by another electric motor (acts as a generator and a starter) mated to a 1.5 litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine making 98 PS (97 hp or 72 kW) and 127 Nm. The petrol engine can also clutch in through a single-speed transmission (E-CVT) to provide direct drive at higher speeds when it is more efficient to do so.
The kit list includes halogen projector headlamps, a seven-inch multi-info instrument cluster display, an 8-inch Advanced Touch head unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic air-conditioning with rear vents, keyless entry and start (with smart key), Honda Sensing, four airbags and leather upholstery.
Customers will have two exterior colours to choose from, with the starting price being for a Crystal Black Pearl finish. There’s also Platinum White Pearl, although this bumps the asking price up to 739,000 baht (RM95k).
