Transport minister Anthony Loke has said that Keretapi Tanah Melayu‘s (KTM) popular Electric Train Service (ETS) is expected to begin serving Johor Bahru from December 12, Bernama reports, with the inauguration set for December 11 and consent obtained from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to officiate the launch in the Johorean capital.
“If the distance is too long, such as routes to the north, we can only operate two trips a day, one up, one down. But for a shorter journey like Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur, the service can run more frequently, he told a press conference on Saturday.
According to another Bernama report, KTM said in a statement that there’ll be four daily trips between KL Sentral and JB Sentral to start with, and that more trips will be added as more new trainsets are activated. Stay tuned for ticketing to open – it’s the end of the year, so we’re sure this is going to sell fast.
“So far, four out of the 10 ETS3 train sets have passed the final detailed inspection (PCA), obtained certification and are ready for operation. For services from JB Sentral heading north, operations will be introduced in stages, in line with infrastructure readiness, scheduling requirements and the availability of operating assets,” it said.
