Top 20 cars in Oct 2025 – Bezza nearly hit 10k, Saga second; HR-V above Corolla Cross; CR-V beats J7

The road transport department‘s (JPJ) vehicle registration data for the month of October 2025 is out, and there’s no surprise with who’s on top. The Perodua Bezza is Malaysia’s best selling car, and the compact sedan nearly hit 10,000 units last month!

The Bezza’s total of 9,990 is just 10 units shy of the 10k mark, and we’re talking about the oldest car in P2’s stable – the company’s first sedan was launched back in July 2016, and the current facelift debut in January 2020. It’s close to being a decade old now, but sales seem to be getting stronger.

The Bezza is the car guy’s favourite punching bag, especially when it’s ‘Saga season’ now, but many car enthusiasts fail to understand that regular folks shopping in this segment value fuel efficiency and reliability (ADAS has been available since 2020, by the way), and when it’s time to sell, RV is sweet. The latter, mocked by the same minority crowd, reflects strong market demand for used Peroduas, backed by the same reasons stated above.

The Proton Saga is doing very well too. In September, the Bezza’s A-sedan rival broke P2’s podium stranglehold to place second in the league, and it has maintained that position for October with 7,825 units.

Bear in mind that this is the outgoing Saga, which will be replaced by the 2026 MC3 very soon. The revised model with a new 1.5L engine, fancy interior (for this segment) and ADAS availability is coming too late in the year to challenge the Bezza’s 2025 status, but it should be a good race next year.

After the Saga, it’s the entire range of Peroduas except for the Aruz (11th). From third to sixth is the Axia, Myvi, Alza and Ativa. The highest placed non-national model is the Toyota Vios in seventh (2,793), which beats the Honda City (sedan plus hatchback, 2,508, 10th). Speaking of B-segment sedans, the Proton S70 – which offers more on paper but is priced to match the Vios-City – is down in 14th place with just 1,402 units.

Proton had high hopes for the S70, which it hoped would take over from the X50 as the brand’s second best seller after the Saga. It didn’t turn out that way – monthly S70 sales breached the 2,000 unit mark only once this year, and the X50 (which has since been refreshed) is ahead in October (2,693, eighth) and YTD.

Further down, Honda’s two main SUVs beat their respective segment rivals last month. The HR-V (1,539, 13th) pipped the Toyota Corolla Cross (1,323, 15th), while the CR-V (949, 19th) came ahead of the Jaecoo J7 (806, 20th). In the year-to-date table, the HR-V is ahead of the Corolla Cross but the CR-V is behind the J7. The Proton eMas 7 made its top 20 debut in September but Malaysia’s best-selling EV failed to stay close enough to the ICE pack last month.

Looking at the YTD table above, the Bezza and Axia’s 1-2 finish is a foregone conclusion, but the Myvi is hanging on its third place by a thread. The Saga is less than 2,000 units behind and can smell a podium spot – can the new model full throttle to third with a month (depending on when it’s launched) to go? The interest is there, so it depends on Proton’s production capacity. One to watch.

to be fair should look at entire year numbers not only for a single month as that could be an anomaly.

Bezza sales will drop once the new improvised Saga surge ahead.
Now the Saga has a 1.5 engine engine and cheaper still quite a bit compared to the stale n moldy outdated Bezza.
Perodua…dont just overprice the Bezza..price it around 40K and see if the Saga still lag behind.

  • CRV loses for 8 months. Matter of time, China cars will replace Japan cars. Now, our market is focusing on China EV cars, such as Zeekr, Xpeng, BYD, Icaur, etc

Next month onwards going to be a 2 horse race between new saga and bezza. Bezza will needs some “realistic” upgrade, else will be losing crown to saga in matters of time.
