We now have another view of Perodua’s upcoming EV now shown at the ongoing Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2025, in a similar form as that of the Aspirations concept that was shown at the Malaysia Autoshow (MAS) 2025 in May this year.

Up close, we have discovered that the EV features a lithium-ion battery with a nominal 52.5 kWh capacity; Perodua has previously stated its target of a real-world range of around 400-410 km. With an estimated gross capacity of around 50 kWh and an average power consumption of around 13 kWh per 100 km, this would bring a real-world range of around 385 km. However, this may be the smaller of two battery sizes to be offered, as Perodua has previously targeted a real-world range of over 400 km. More to be revealed soon.

We’ve been informed previously that the battery for the upcoming Perodua EV will be supplied by CATL, however this isn’t a CATL platform as the half-cut display appears not to be of a dedicated EV “skateboard” platform, but rather of an ICE vehicle platform that has been adapted for EV application.

Shown alongside the Perodua EV is a 7 kW wall box charger, which should mean that the production model will have a 7 kW single-phase onboard charger as well. For comparison, the recently-launched Proton eMas 5 has up to 325 km in Premium guise, with a 40.16 kWh battery also from CATL.

Perodua has previously stated that it targets a 0-100 km/h time of around six to seven seconds, and a top speed of 160 km/h. Loftier numbers than those claimed by Proton for the eMas 5, and so the Perodua’s powertrain will be considerably more powerful.

Further observation of the Perodua EV cross-section reveals a front suspension setup that appears very similar to that of the current Myvi, which employs MacPherson struts in front. The EV here uses a torsion beam rear suspension layout, which again mimics that of the Myvi.

This latest showing of the Perodua EV also offers another viewing of its interior, which appears to be the same as that of the MAS 2025 show unit. Here, we can see that its steering wheel is of a new design, while the transmission selector is a Range Rover-style rotary unit.

As before, the dashboard features a digital driver’s instrument display and a floating infotainment screen (not too large to be domineering in a fashion of Chinese EVs), situated above the air-conditioning vents and the high centre console.

We’ve found that the top of the dashboard feature some foam padding too, which will make this the first Perodua to feature soft-touch material. Beneath the console is a space for smaller items, along with a 12-volt power socket, USB-A and USB-C ports, and microSD card slot.

Meanwhile in the second row, legroom appears tight though this is because the front seat has been pushed all the way back; in practice, space should be acceptable. However, its rear windows appear rather small, and so natural light may be at a premium for rear passengers. There are also no rear air-conditioning vents.

Perodua has previously stated that its first EV will be launched with what it calls Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), which will be first passenger car EV leasing scheme in Malaysia.

This is aimed at lowering the cost of the car and ensuring that owners will always have a battery in the best possible condition. Alternatively, car owners may opt to purchase the battery outright, for which the battery will be offered with a standard eight-year warranty, Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said in May.

Seen in the metal, it appears substantially sized. Appearing to be significantly larger than a Myvi, the EV looks to be closer to the B-SUV Proton X50 in size, albeit with a lower, sportier roofline.

Yesterday, Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Perodua’s first electric vehicle will be made an ‘important national agenda’ in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen governance, social responsibility and protection of the environment, suggesting that its launch could take place at the end of this month.

Its aforementioned size makes it larger than the Proton eMas 5, and the Perodua EV’s projected range is certainly longer. Given that the top-spec eMas 5 Premium goes for around RM70k, would pricing in the region of RM80k be reasonable for Perodua’s first battery-electric model?

  • The current Myvi transformed chassis bring a class above handling and comfort compared to the previous authentic JDM Myvi. The authentic JDM Myvi also easily scores lower Ncap Crash test with a Chasis that’s less stiff.

    Let’s see Magic on this transformed Chasis too.
    If can deliver promised acceleration, the Chasis sure is toughened aggressively.

      unlikely – it’s probably for ventilation.

      many cars have this usually because some form of computer module is installed there so a vent is cut in the boot plastic trim.

  • Before that say range 400km+ and now 385km. With 80-20% rule, the effective range may be only 250 to 300km only.

    So basically this is PERODUA revolutionary steps,

    1. Take the myvi
    2. Stretched it a little to fit the battery.
    3. Remove the engine and fit electric motor.
    4. Cut the roof and make it sloped.
    5. Change interior and put foam on dashboard. lol
    6. AND THERE, YOU HAVE PERODUA’S FIRST EV CAR WOOOOHOOOO EASYYYY !!!!!

      if it is indeed that ‘easy’ then i praise Perodua for being smart. use what’s good and improve it.. step by step. no need to showboat ‘all new’ when the risk is sky high. it is smart if this similarity results in sharing of parts and improve cost on economy of scale. nothing shameful but smart !

      if its real world range 385km seems resonably fine at the given price point. unless ur comparing range against RM100k cars which isnt fair comparison

    Very interesting. will this BEV only of potential phev too ? It makes more sense to perodua to have the ability to adapt the platform + chasis for both bev and phev. considering that the target volume of 10k per month seems very large adoption rate required to cover the development cost. perhaps a phev after bev is next. a phev like nissan’s e-power whereby fuel / ron95 is used to generate electricity for battery and drive is solely via electric motor. as such the main drive remains intact and control by user remains the same. however under the skin, it has a small 3-cyl engine to keep battery charge up. very suitable for our nation where bev adoption is still in early stage. hybrid makes more sales by right..

    Disappointed frunk not included. The Emas7 at home used less often than the M6 as M6 has a frunk even though it is not that big. Go wet market, bring anything dirty or smelly all can put in frunk.
