Following its debut at this year’s Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), the Jaecoo J5 EV has now officially gone on sale in the republic. Two variants are offered there, starting with the Standard priced at 249.9 million rupiah (about RM63k), which is then followed by the Premium at 299.9 million rupiah (RM75k) – these prices are for the first 1,000 customers.
Both variants share the same powertrain featuring a 60.9-kWh battery that powers a front electric motor rated at 211 PS (208 hp or 155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque. This setup is good for a 0-100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds and a range of up to 461 km following the NEDC standard.
The electric vehicle supports DC fast charging at a peak capacity of 130 kW, which gets the battery from a 30-80% state of charge in 28 minutes. There’s also a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system that can output up to 3.3 kW to power various electrical devices or appliances.
Available equipment for the J5 EV include 18-inch wheels, a panoramic glass roof with a powered sunshade, a powered tailgate, synthetic leather upholstery, powered front seats with ventilation function, a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, eight speakers, 64-colour ambient lighting, six airbags, a 50-watt wireless charging pad and telematics.
On the safety side of things, there are six airbags and the usual array of passive system. The SUV comes with an ADAS suite with 17 functions, including autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and more.
Forest Green, Jet Black, Pristine White and Ivory Gray are the colour options offered for the J5 EV, which comes with a six-year/150,000-km vehicle warranty and eight-year/160,000-km battery warranty. Jaecoo Indonesia also throws in a year’s worth of telematics subscription (via CarLinko) and roadside assistance, along with two years of pick up/drop off service and a four-year/60,000 free labour service package.
In terms of dimensions, the J5 EV measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,650 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. That makes it about the size of the Honda HR-V, Proton X50 and Chery Tiggo Cross we have here. On that mention, the regular J5 with an internal combustion engine was previewed here in August, but it isn’t confirmed if we will get the fully electric version. Should this come here?
