Following its global debut in July this year, the third-generation Mazda CX-5 has now made its first public appearance at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show.
Larger than its predecessor, the latest CX-5 measures 4,690 mm long (+115 mm), 1,860 mm wide (+15 mm), 1,695 mm tall (+15 mm) and with a wheelbase of 2,775 mm (+75 mm). Designed following the brand’s new ‘Wearable Gear’ concept, the SUV appears somewhat familiar but with notable changes so you don’t confuse it with the older model.
At the front, the seven-point grille gets a black frame connected to the headlamps with a tiered daytime running light signature. Slightly squared off wheel arches have also been implemented, while the roofline slopes less towards the rear. On that mention, the L-shaped taillights are reminiscent of those on the CX-60 and CX-80, accompanied by a Mazda script and dual tailpipes.
Inside, there’s a brand-new dashboard that places a large touchscreen front and centre. This can be in 12.9 or 15.6 inches, with many vehicle functions, including the climate system, being integrated to reduce the number of physical controls. For the driver, there’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and steering wheel that sports the Mazda script instead of logo.
The CX-5 was introduced with just an e-Skyactiv G mild hybrid engine, a 2.5 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four unit making 141 PS and 238 Nm. Augmented by a 24-volt mild hybrid system, the mill is paired with a six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
According to a market insight report by Maybank Investment Bank, Bermaz Auto plans to start local assembly (CKD) of the all-new CX-5 sometime in its financial year 2027 ending April 30, 2028.

This new Gen dimension is closer to the Mazda CX-50,
But this get 2.5L 141PS, to keep the price low?
Now the 2.0L 162hp CX-5 Japan starting from 2. 8mil JP¥, from RM 77k+
This car dead on arrival, you want to launch this gear in 2027 is crazy.
By then with all the Chinese cars this will be woefully outdated
eventhough i cannot afford to buy CX5, i still want to comment that the aircon control moved to touch screen is the worst of the worst mistakes done by the engineer. hopefully the facelift will correct this.
“Bermaz Auto plans to start local assembly (CKD) of the all-new CX-5 sometime in its financial year 2027 ending April 30, 2028.”
hopefully this means they import the damn thing first before that because if it means we’re only getting this thing 2 years later…might as well just not sell it atp
Gone the Mazda finesse with tactile buttons and dials and also metallic accents
Is this a real Mazda or another repackaged Changan vehicle? The interior has suspiciously mutated from a Mazda interior into a typical China car interior. They seem to have lost the plot too, transitioning from physical controls to touchscreen controls when the rest of the industry is gradually reintroducing physical controls.
Hahah..follow chinese car all touch screen..
Bermaz CKD CX5 over CX50 and probably price at premium. By that time probably market has wider range of Chery and Co.
why is the power so weak? kaizen banzai nihonjin engineering produced 2.5 hybrid engine with only 140bhp?
Mazda’s making big mistakes by trying to copy Chinese sensibilities in their design instead of just refining what they’re known for.
Going for a ‘minimalist’ text-based badge on the steering wheel and rear of the car is tacky. Dropping the physical buttons for climate control and doing away with the central control knob is a massive downgrade as well.
Whoever designed the dashboard and console really gaji buta la
Selling an 145ps NA ice car in 2026 is business suicide. I’m never buying a NA ice again in my life. Good luck
