MG S5 EV pricing revised in Malaysia – RM8,000 less; base Com fr RM109k, Com LR RM119k, Lux LR RM129k

Pricing for the MG S5 EV has been revised in Malaysia, a few months after the electric SUV went on sale here back in May this year. Similar to the MG4 EV that got its price adjusted downwards earlier this month, the MG S5 EV is now more affordable than before as a result of this revision.

Effective immediately, the S5 EV is now priced at RM107,900 for the base Com variant, moving on to RM117,900 for the Com Long Range and RM127,900 for the top-spec Lux Long Range.

Keep in mind that these are retail prices before on-the-road costs and insurance. With OTR costs but no insurance, the prices at RM108,548 for the Com, RM118,548 for the Com Long Range and RM128,548 for the Lux Long Range. Compared to the previous prices, the reduction is RM8,000 across the board.

For a recap of the specifications, all variants of the S5 EV come with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with the Com equipped with a 49-kWh unit that is good for a WLTP-rated range of up to 340 km. The remaining Com Long Range and Lux Long Range get a 62-kWh LFP battery for up to 430 and 425 km respectively.

AC charging is capped at 7 kW, while DC fast charging is 120 kW for the Com and 150 kW for the other two variants. The higher rate sees the battery get from a 10-80% state of charge in 26 minutes. There’s also a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system to power appliances.

A rear electric motor rated at 170 PS (168 hp or 125 kW) and 250 Nm of torque is standard for the S5 EV, with the 0-100 km/h time being either eight seconds (Com), 8.2 seconds (Com Long Range) or 8.6 seconds (Lux Long Range).

The next step up to the Lux Long Range adds 18-inch two-tone alloys, power-folding side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a leather steering wheel, a wireless phone charging pad, a rear centre armrest and reading lamps, six speakers (from four), automatic wipers, a powered tailgate with kick sensor and a 360-degree surround view camera. • Not bad specifications, but pricing is just not competitive enough when you have Atto 3, e.Mas7 and C10 all cheaper (don’t look at the lower specification variant). When you sell only single digit per month, how are you going to CKD this.

  • These are the people that trying to push the narrative resale value is not important. It’s all because the brand can’t keep its value.

  • Feel like even with price adjustment its not good value at all..even they cut another 20k also dont feel like that its a good value also(highest spec)..Yeah maybe its drive well..But it only have 170ps..0-100 not better than equivalent ice car available at the price asking(yeah electric car torque available from 0 rpm)..when your top of the line spec is not that competitive in the segment while also cost more..people wont feel like want to look at your product at all..i hope mg realize this..Ill say bring the im product here..that look more desirable..Price it right it would sell like zeekr 7x/Sealion.
