Another day, another special edition of the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has just released a teaser of a new variant of the hot hatch, featuring the distinctive Sepang International Circuit (SIC) grandstand as the background.
There are no clues as to what form this car will take, although the above image is very clearly of the current Mk8 model (so still no Mk8.5 facelift as yet). The only hint we can glean is from the caption, which states that “two icons are about to meet.”
We’ll take this to mean that this is a co-branding exercise, and the racy nature of the background means that the collaboration is likely motorsport-themed. Could we see the car carry the branding of SIC and its sponsor Petronas, replete with highlights in the oil and gas company’s turquoise-green corporate colour scheme? All pure speculation, of course.
Whatever it is, expect the car to come with accessories such as a bodykit, different wheels, window tint and special badges, as has been the case with the previous Edition 50 and Black Edition. What almost certainly won’t change will be the mechanicals – a 245 PS/370 Nm 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed DSG wet dual-clutch transmission, whisking the GTI from zero to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.

Sepang themed Golf GTI – should comes with a manual option, track oriented tyres, special sepang track suspension tuning, for “track car” edition…
but not surprising if VM only specialized on aesthetics: special badges, sepang track sticker, probably some special livery…
Get the R if you want more power and a stiff car.Choose your preference within the Golf lineup ……. the GTI is THE sports everyday car.
Sepang theme? Overpriced? Loss making? Amg gt overaccelerate and can’t brake?
Fanboys will keep defending this FWD champ alongside Civic Type R, but truth is that at the price it’ll be priced at, it’s better to just get an M340i.
Boss, 120k difference in price vs M340i
FL5 for the win!
do u even math? the price gap is huge , also road tax for 3.0 is a lot more.
the real question is whether golf gti can use ron95.
That’s Sepang Blue from Audi color catalogue, isn’t it?
