Over RM20 billion allocated for subsidies towards consumer goods this year, including fuel, says KPDN

The ministry of domestic trade and cost of living (KPDN) has revealed more than RM20 billion has been allocated for subsidies towards consumer goods this year, The Star reports.

According to KPDN minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, the allocation, which also covers fuel subsidies, will continue to benefit the majority of Malaysians. He was responding to Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, who asked whether the government intends to reintroduce subsidies for rice and cooking oil to assist those burdened by the cost of living.

During the tabling of Budget 2025, the government said it would carry out targeted RON95 petrol subsidy by mid-2025. In January this year, economy minister Rafizi Ramli said the government would soon announce the subsidy eligibility criteria and mechanism for sudsidised RON 95 soon.

We previously discussed the possible mechanisms that can be used to disburse RON 95 subsidies in an earlier post, and you can share your thoughts on the matter here.

Ok what. We use it for the rakyat instead of building infrastructures for other people.

John…u need correction. 100 juta Rm,lah..dont exagerate, nanti PMX or Azam marah.
      Now,Rafizi keep saying TARGETED subsidies.
Why still subsidising consumer goods for the rich?
Rafizi…rakyat very tired of empty talk.If betul betul deny the rich, then roll out a mechanism to deny them.
If not, believing a parrot is easier than all these talk.
