For the European market, the Toyota Corolla Hatchback is known as the Auris but no longer. The company has announced that when the model goes on sale in Europe early next year, it would be known as the Corolla Hatchback. Fun fact, the name Auris is based on the Latin noun, ‘aurum’, or gold.
The decision to discontinue the Auris nameplate coincides with the new model’s adoption of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which replaces the three different platforms used by the current generation models.
“The TNGA engineering and design philosophy brings a whole new dimension to our next generation C-segment models,” said Johan van Zyl, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
Apart from the hatchback, the upcoming sedan and wagon versions of the Corolla will also feature the same nameplate. In the case of the wagon – which will be known as the Corolla Touring Sports – the model will be introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October.
No word on when the sedan body style will be revealed, although we’ve seen plenty of spyshots of it previously. Regardless of which Corolla body type, they will all feature the company’s hybrid electric technology, the company says.
Toyota also stated the Corolla is the world’s best-selling model nameplate, with more than 45 million vehicles sold worldwide since its introduction in 1966. Using such a name for all markets would certainly be a beneficial move, don’t you think?

if not mistaken the dynamic force 2.0 engine has 170 bhp.i would rather choose a bit less torque from NA engine over a FI engine. FI engine will surely have more problems down the road, maybe with the turbine, hoses, dump valve , intercoller, etc.
