2019 Nissan Altima teased in design sketch – new Teana set to officialy debut at New York Auto Show

Ahead of the 2018 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Nissan has revealed the first design sketch of the sixth-generation Altima, or better known to us as the Teana. The model will showcase the future of Nissan’s sedan design language, which we first saw in the form of the Vmotion 2.0 Concept.

As the sketch shows, the new Altima boldly embraces many of the cues seen on the 2017 debut, with a prominent V-motion grille, slender headlamps and plenty of sharp lines. It’s hard to tell if the concept’s “floating roof” has been adapted for use here, but the window line kink is visible.

Like the front, the concept’s rear is equally as arresting, but we’ll have to wait for the production version to debut to see if anything’s changed. Spyshots of an Altima mule show a tamer rear section compared to the concept, including the angular taillights.

The photos also include a shot of the car’s interior, which like the exterior, is significantly different from the model it replaces. The dashboard is now dominated by a large, free-standing touchscreen display, with the air-con vents being placed between it and the climate control switchgear.

Elsewhere, the centre console appears to offer more stowage space options than before, with a shorter gear lever as well. Other driving-related controls include a new steering wheel that is reminiscent of the one found in the latest Leaf, Qashqai and X-Trail.

No word on what will power the new Altima, although it is expected to be offered with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines, paired with a CVT and optional all-wheel drive. More details will be revealed when its debuts in New York.
