Toyota Corolla Altis gets new options – DVR dash cam, 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, USB chargers

UMW Toyota Motor has given the Toyota Corolla Altis a slight update, as it gains a few optional extras.

For a start, the optional Value Package includes a new-design digital video recorder (DVR), DVD-AVX infotainment system with reverse camera, Toyota premium security and solar film as well as new illuminated scuff plates. The Value Package is priced at RM6,137.40, and is offered for free for new customers.

There’s also a new panoramic view monitor (360-degree parking camera) for RM2,650 and front USB charging ports for RM212 – as offered on the Vios earlier. As before, there’s a DVD-AVN navigation upgrade for RM1,272 and an Aerokit styling package priced at RM2,438, which includes front and rear bumper spoilers, side skirts and a boot lid-mounted spoiler. You can also package the Aerokit, navigation and panoramic view monitor together for RM6,360.

Beyond the new options, the cars are largely unchanged in terms of specifications, with halogen headlights and 16-inch alloys being fitted to the 1.8E and 1.8G as before. The 2.0V gets LED projectors and larger 17-inch wheels instead. Safety kit is equal across the range, including seven airbags, VSC, traction control, ABS and Isofix rear child seat anchors.

Under the hood, models with the ‘1.8’ designation are powered by a 2ZR-FE 1.8 litre Dual VVT-I petrol engine (139 PS and 173 Nm), while the range-topping 2.0V gets a 3ZR-FE 2.0 litre unit instead (145 PS and 187 Nm). All engines are paired with a CVT automatic featuring a seven-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic Mode.

The Corolla Altis range starts with the 1.8E that goes for RM117,400 (on-the-road without insurance), followed by the 1.8G at RM120,300 and finally, the 2.0V at RM134,900. Each purchase comes with a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty, and a choice of six body colours. Detailed specs here on CarBase.my.

Comments highlight concerns about the Toyota Corolla Altis's features, pricing, and competition, especially against Honda Civic. Many find it outdated with low power, missing modern tech like Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and underwhelming specs such as the USB charger and rear air conditioning. Several users mention the model's poor on-road presence and market struggles, emphasizing that the Altis remains overpriced, underspecced, and less appealing compared to rivals. Some express skepticism about Toyota’s value proposition and sales strategy in Malaysia.

That’s how you know the Altis (or basically all UMWT vehicles) aren’t selling well.

Wow very impressive. ‘Latest’ model by Toyota with recycled technology. Who on earth is buying Toyota these days? Overpriced, outdated and underpowered.

Sini pun kau komen Norah? Dah lar tu. Your Kia sales so bad that you find the need to kutuk every other car ke. Every Jap car ad and article in FB will have this Norah commenting then posting about how nice the Optima is. Hahahahaha……go improve your product and marketing dulu. If the customer perception is the problem, fix it the right way. Not by taking it out on other makes.

We lucky they didn’t mentioned power window as a selling point.

Apparently USB charger is a premium product nowadays for them while the rest moves on to wireless chargers… it’s like selling nasi lemak and pay extra for the additional ikan bilis while people putting in rendang ayem for paying extra.

UMW Toyota still haven’t learned from their mistake it seems. Always offering after market aesthetics gadgets and trims as improvement and expecting to sell it’s cars? Please stop treating Malaysian car buyers as fools and stop insulting the consumers intelligence. TQ

UMW Toyota is one of the few local companies which use DVRs (a.k.a dashcams) as a marketing tool. I believe ETCM also does the same for some Nissan models.

Under the new auto insurance policy, cars with one or more DVRs/dashcams *may* benefit from lower insurance premiums. Again, I must stress the ‘may’ part of this statement. Most local insurance companies have not yet capitalised on dashcams.

DVRs/dashcams are actually very helpful to the insurance companies and law enforcement. It prevents insurance fraud and helps combat crime (theft, break-in, hit and run etc.). In some countries (eg. Russia), every car MUST have a dashcam as part of the insurance policy. Nowadays, you can even get a decent dashcam for around RM200.

It is only a matter of time until local insurance companies start capitalising on dashcams. In that sense, UMW Toyota is ahead of the game.

Have to agree with other comments here that Toyota is not selling well with the new Civic around. I don’t think with all this kit, it will tempt people away from the civic. Toyota needs to design from the ground up. The interior is dated and Toyota refuses to integrate new technology like Android auto and Apple carplay will cost them dearly. Not sure if they want to integrate all this new technology. They are still reluctant to do so for other markets. Even iriz has more USB ports.

On another note, consumers can also see how much UMW is giving now when there is real competition

Holy moly.. look at all that grey plastics… with crappy textures and visibly poor quality to boot. What is this, a blast from the past? Toyota building cars based on the quality standards of 15 years ago?

Toyota in malaysia is really struggling. people buy the accord vs the camry (except the hybrid), civic sells better than altis, city sells better than vios.

Even the serena hybrid sells better than the innova.

the only surviving one is their hilux. without that, toyota’s name has already being erased from malaysia. it’s time for toyota to wake up, move forward just as their tagline claimed and stay innovative and competitive.

they are ok. UMW has interests in 3 car brands namely Toyota, Lexus and also Perodua. all in all, UMW is having almost half of all cars sold in Malaysia. almost 50% share market.
