There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the Kia Stinger in Malaysia lately, and whether or not it will officially go on sale here. Well, get ready to be excited again as the rear-wheel drive sports sedan was recently put on display during Kia’s 2017 Asia Distributors Convention event in Sabah.
These photos were posted on the official Instagram accounts of Kia Malaysia as well as SM Nasarudin, executive chairman of Naza Group of Companies. The red Stinger seen here appears to be the high-spec GT variant, which should be packing a 3.3 litre Lambda II twin-turbo V6 engine with 365 hp and 510 Nm of torque. The most powerful Stinger variant will complete the zero to 100 km/h sprint in just 4.9 seconds.
Other engine options include a 2.0 litre Theta II turbo four-cylinder petrol unit (255 hp and 353 Nm) and a 2.2 litre CRDi turbo four-cylinder diesel (197 hp and 440 Nm), the latter for the European market. All are paired with an eight-speed auto transmission from the K9.
Of course, the appearance of the Stinger in Malaysia doesn’t equate to a definite launch, so keep that in mind. However, Naza Kia Malaysia chief operating officer, Datuk Samson Anand George, revealed back in February it was confident that it would be able to bring in the Stinger “soon.” We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this one.
