2016 Audi TT RS – no manual, dual-clutch auto only?

No more big naturally-aspirated engines, no more manual transmissions – in this day and age, it’s all turbochargers and dual-clutch automatic transmissions, it seems. It looks like the same fate has befallen the upcoming 2016 Audi TT RS – the ultimate TT won’t be getting a stick shift.

Although no one is really putting up a protest about Audi’s decision to stick with a dual-clutch, it’s the stick shift activists and hardcore RS diehards in particular that won’t be pleased, at all. First the B8 RS4, then the second-generation R8, now the TT RS too.

According to Car and Driver, the new TT RS will carry the S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox – the same one that can be found in the Audi RS3 Sportback. It’s said to be faster and more refined than a manual. No arguments there, as the outgoing TT RS plus is proven to be quicker with the S tronic option.

The new TT RS will feature Audi’s quattro (it has to) and in addition to that, power will come from a reworked 2.5 litre TFSI turbocharged five-cylinder engine with up to 400 PS, up from the present 367 PS. Well at least that’s a consolation, me thinks.
