2015 Honda Civic Type R teased ahead of Geneva

honda-civic-type-r-2015-teaser-sketch

Brace yourselves. Honda has teased the fourth-gen Honda Civic Type R hatch, in production form, ahead of its scheduled debut next month at the 2014 Geneva show.

The sketch reveals a very muscular and aggressive back end, augmented by flared and vented wheel arches, a dramatic two-tier rear wing incorporating tail lamps, striking alloys and quad tailpipes within an aggressive-looking rear diffuser.

When it goes on sale in 2015, the latest iteration of the legend will draw at least 280 PS from a new VTEC TURBO 2.0 litre turbocharged direct-injection engine, becoming the first Type R model to be turbocharged. Earlier teaser images revealed a 7,000-rpm redline – not stratospheric for a Type R but pretty respectable for a turbo.

Honda is targeting the Nurburgring record for FWD cars with this one – an early prototype has been evaluated on the track, where it set a time “approaching the lap record” currently held by the Renault Megane RS 265 Trophy.

Honestly, Geneva just can’t come soon enough.

    • Nice engine melody too ..
when Vtec kicks in with turbocharging~~~ then
releasing the throttle, the blow-off sound hissing.

wow, thats a formula for ultimate street race psycho.

I’m very sure with simple re-tune, this car gonna be mind blowing fast for hot-hatch uplifting the girls skirts :p

If they achieved what they plan to do from the beginning, this should smoke all FF cars. At the Nurburgring at least.

    Very aggressive.

So Tarquini is going to attempt the Nurburgring lap record?

But 7000rpm redline. A little low even for a turbo? Even my old 4G63T with stock internals will rev to 8200rpm (7500rpm stock rev cut)

With VTEC, and better turbos now, it is odd to set the rev limit so low, with the usable powerband much more effective over a wider rpm range. Track junkies this car is aimed at will appreciate that a higher rev limit will allow for shorter gears.

It suddenly looks like the hot hatchbacks are on a blaze. Interesting this.

All the while honda dint market their type R under luxury line. These same goes for scooby and evo. Only because in MYS car price is super premium that made the impression people treat it as luxury toy. In US or UK, most of these cars are own by uni students and young working adults.

Now that’s what a Civic should be. It’s been a very long time since the Civic brand was distorted into a toothless car by Honda.

Civic is civic NOT type R civic- A mass produced family sedan civic – FD2 is still looking great after all these years ! I dont think FD2 is toothless-It has overtaken many comparable category NA sedan from other makes years ago when it was first introduced in 2006! Other jap/korean brands with NA engine playing catch up all these years. Civic Type R = a BOY RACER image- That’s what that makes it HOT & sought after in the first place, …hope the pricing is right when it is available here. long live to the Temple of VTEC …

Not bad looking. A bit busy actually, but guess those flares and spoilers are there for aero reasons. Wonder what gearbox this will get? 6/7 speed manual or dual clutch?

Sadly, this will most probably never reach Malaysia, except through grey importers.

There won’t be a sedan Civic Type R like the previous Civic, as Civics are no longer sold in Japan (except the hybrid). And the Civic Type R sedan has always been a Japan effort. The closest is the Civic SI sold in North America (but it is not wild enough to earn the Type R moniker), which uses the 2.4 litre normally aspirated engine. So this Euro Civic is the only CTR we will see for now.

    Wow! 280 ps! crazee machine.

Audi’s range of 2.0T engines can only make out 211 hp! And, I have tested one previously n felt like “stuck” to my seat once press d pedal hard! Can’t imagine whatz it like on 280 ps which is almost the same as 280 hp.

This Civic Type-R is so powerful, itz mind boggling!

      @tycoon88

Errr…may I make a suggestion to you go n test drive the Focus RS if you could still find one. If you think this is mind boggling, try the 300 hp over 400 nm from the RS then you shall know. However, the torque steer of the RS is quite apparent despite the Revoknuckle suspension system. This CTR may give the balance of power n handling to give a grin on ur face, we just have to wait for the grey importer to bring it in then…
