Mazda3 third-gen on oto.my – RM135k, March launch?

s4-1388-IMG_1043

The third-gen Mazda3 has surfaced for the second time on our sister classifieds site oto.my. This time, it’s the 2.0 SkyActiv sedan. The listing indicates a March 2014 launch, with deliveries to begin shortly after.

An unofficial price of RM135k is stated here. The previous ad for the hatchback, which we featured in August, listed RM153k, which many of us thought was rather a lot. That ad is no longer up, but could that price have been a typo then?

Numbers indicated in that ad include 155 hp at 6,000 rpm, 203 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, a combined fuel consumption of 6.9 litres per 100 km and a 210 km/h top speed. Transmission is a six-speed auto.

mazda3-oto-my-1

Auto rain-sensing wipers, DRLs, 205/60 R16 tyres and four airbags were amongst the equipment mentioned, but remember, all this isn’t official until the car is launched.

The third-gen Mazda3 is currently on sale in the US and Japan. The US gets 155 hp/203 Nm 2.0 litre (i-Eloop optional as part of package) and 184 hp/250 Nm 2.5 litre (i-Eloop standard) SkyActiv-G engines.

Japan’s Axela gets a 99 hp/150 Nm 1.5 litre SkyActiv-G, a 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G in 118 hp/210 Nm and 163 hp/210 Nm states of tune (the latter with i-Eloop), a 148 hp/380 Nm 2.2 litre twin-turbo SkyActiv-D and a hybrid variant. Europe will mirror Japan’s engines, minus the hybrid.

Comments

  • AI-generated Summary ✨

Comments on the Mazda3 third-generation pricing and launch highlight a range of opinions. Many find RM135k expensive and compare it unfavorably to other models like the Ford Focus or the more affordable Proton Preve, citing perceived value and handling. Some express disappointment over the price, feeling it should be lower, especially with remarks about increasing car prices in Malaysia and currency issues. A few comments mention that the price is comparable to other D-segment sedans but still consider it high for a C-segment vehicle. Others appreciate Mazda's design and features, anticipating better quality for the price. Overall, sentiments lean toward skepticism about the affordability of the new Mazda3, with some suggesting waiting for CKD versions or lower-spec models to reduce costs.

Many of the people complaining about the over pricing for this C Segment car. Remember, the RM is dropping and shrinking, there is nothing much you can choose for the C segment cars nowadays around RM130k. Korean car is so scare to put the same pricing with Japanese car but in fact the price is going up gradually. The selling price of the D segment will also increase if the RM keep on shrinking.

Proton also got high taxed. Still csn offer competitive price. Not only in malaysia but in thai and indonesia. It’s social responsibility despite a private company. Others are eyeing for money only.

Mazfa and other japs companies have been here for long time. They have sent millions to their homeland. They should’ve absorb the currency shrinkage and offer better prices.

  • heybadigol on Nov 06, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Of course this is estimated pricing. But im not surprised by the pricing. The Mazda6 is easily more expensive than Camry & Accord. So, this price makes sense. One has to consider that the 3 will be most probably imported from Japan, and will all the Skyactiv tech (which the “garden variety” Civic & upcoming Altis do not have), surely will push up the price further. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. If you want all the tech goodies, plus a sweet looking & sweet handling ride, its the price you have to pay for it. Plus, Mazda is not a volume seller, so not expecting them to outsell Civic & Altis. Im sure even Hyundai & Kia can sell more.

But why only 2.0? If the 2.5 comes here too, can scare off some Merc A250 drivers. Of course, the price for a Mazda3 2.5 will be amazingly high (for a Japanese C segment), but still lower than the A250 (which is slightly smaller).

A250 is turbocharged. It would be hard to match. Even a200 would be a challenge. On the highway it might be a different story as hp rules but on a twisty track no way. The power from a200 comes too early. But with a skilled driver and possibly manual transmission, anything is possible.

however the mazda 3 with 2.5 skyactive would be a riot to drive man. I am still waiting for cx5 with 2.5 skyactive. Again I will not entertain troll with comments regarding affordability. U don even know me.

Mazda3 2.0 prices have always been the highest among most of the Japanese C-Segments. So this is kinda acceptable I guess.

Most of you feel that it is expensive is probably because you are comparing it with the CKD 1.6/2.0 Mazda3 with this new model, which is totally inappropriate.

At 135k, its one of the best deals of the year.

Think about it, the only competitor for this in its class is 230k A4, 240k 3 series and C Class. Even these German cars do not have the same reliability of Mazda, so at 100k cheaper, Mazda 3 is definitely the cheapest and best car.

So guys, please don’t look too much in the increase of 10-20k from the previous generation. In fact, if you look at it carefully the 10-20k is damn worth it
unlike Cerato increase price from Forte, paying more for a junk.

This will drive better, handles better and runs better than the silly k3. Quality wise will be in Audi/Merc segment while consumption from latest tech skyactiv is as good as a hybrid! With the amount of torque on such small nimble aerodynamic car, the acceleration will give the over rated VW Golf GTi or Focus ST a run for their money.. all in all can’t wait for this Mazda.

I’d say they might not know turbo car likepreve has benefit of relaxing driving. Very goid amount of torque is available at early 2000 rpm and spreaded flat until 4000rpm. That’s much better than skyactive 2.0l engine that only reaches max torque at 6000rpm. “It’s so easy to blame the government. Asians like to blame the government, but they seem to love the (car) companies. Despite whatever that has been done, they will criticise Proton and the government. The companies are taking advantage (of this).”

whichever car prices’ leaked/announced here sure all kena bashed kao kao.. haha..

in fact there are still ppl buying no matter what cars, what brands, what specs becoz they just feel like buying..

because alot Msians are basically rich already when they buy cars!

eg lets say Honda accord RM 135k vs RM 95k (langkawi price), ppl are already paying RM40k up front up front.. 40k is like annual tax for a 150k per year income earner..

if you are in the income bracket of taxable income 10k per year.. u already paid 4 years tax in advance..

thus, Msians all are basically rich already when they buy car… sumore bank can loan u 9 years to pay the tax plus car.. (blame ‘you know who’ not the dealers IMO who bring in more choices for Msians in the automotive industry)

Excuse me, even new Honda Accord got 4 stars ANCAP safety rating while preve/suprima S got 5. You said foreign cars are safer? How about the amount of airbags which are reduced and VSC which are omitted for Malaysian market? Still you said it’s safer? LOL, Very FUNNY.

it’s gonna be around that price, it’s too costly. that price is not too far from the new accord base model.

  • Kill two birds with one stone but two engines. 2.0 SkyActiv if Mazda can priced it competitively against Corolla Altis 2014 RM137k or sub-RM110k for 1.5SkyActiv against Vios tak jimat minyak at 11.6km/l certainly will revive the Japanese brand.

If Mazda can offer Sub-RM100k then Vios a run for its money.

I dun think so because now the trend is the price difference is getting bigger between highest variant B segment car and lowest variant in C segment car.

When preve/suprima (C segment) was out people still said is expensive despite the price is similar with Japs B segment cars (such as vios/almera).

Last time honda jazz petrol cbu cost 100++.ppl think its a premium car
Now when jazz petrol ckd cost 75k, ppl said it build up quality is not as good as other range
Its the mentality that needs to be corrected
Mazda spare part is more expensive compared to toyota @[email protected] no 3s service centre for mazda in malaysia
Toyota engine does not use turbocharge compared to other manufacturer.so engine will last longer

All the latest Mazda models are very good looking models, but sadly, here in East Malaysia, there is no dedicated Mazda service centre, I hardly see Mazda cars here, only a few, but there was a considerable growth in the number of CX-5s. Hope they will improve their customer service department. They have great potentials.
