Frankfurt preview: Kia four-door sports sedan concept

Kia is set to unveil its latest concept, a four-door sports sedan, at the IAA in Frankfurt next month. The company hasn’t revealed much about the vehicle – not even a name – aside from saying that the four-seater has rear-wheel drive and its styling signals a distinctive new design direction for the brand.

So goes its chief design officer, Peter Schreyer. “No matter from which perspective you look at it – this concept car is roaring with energy and ready for take-off. I believe the car is a strong statement from Kia: we are ready to fast forward to an all-new chapter.” More about the car when the time comes, undoubtedly.

Comments largely praise the Kia sports sedan concept's bold design, with many noting its Aston Martin influences, particularly the front grille and vents. Some express concern over potential copying and lack of originality, while others appreciate the sporty, muscular lines. A few mention that the design surpasses competitors like Honda Civic, but there are worries about the final production being less inspired. Overall, sentiments are mixed but mostly positive regarding the concept's aesthetic appeal and design cues.

What la Peter Shreyer. Your design cues for Kia are cool enough. No need to ciplak any cues from other manufacturers, especially Aston Martin!

Quite sure the front fascia is adapted from their brother Hyundai Veloster. No idea who pattern it first though.

  • it looks good. now wouldn’t you want a kia that looks a bit like an aston? imagine this, korean pricing but international design. but as it is still a concept, the final design can be tweaked by the designers to be less aston-ish depending on feedback.

Front bumpers looks really Aston Martin-ish especially with the front vents. The grille although with the Kia international look has Aston Martin’s looks too. But what’s not to like. We all know Aston Martin has one of the most beautiful cars of today. If it were a child, I bet tonnes of people would wanna look like Aston Martin. Nothing wrong since they didn’t copy it 100%. Design cues and inspirations from Aston Martin is a smart move. :)

Personally I think the Schreyer magic didn’t work here. The corporate grill looks forced, and it doesn’t have that Nouveau-Kia presence like the Optima or the Sportage. I liked the front of the Kia Ray concept better (different audience, but same shape).

That being said, Schreyer’s been excited about a sports concept for Kia ever since he first came up with the Tiger Grille, so I hope things work out for him.

Looks great, but it looks too much of an Aston Martin or a Maserati Quattroporte with granturismo front. Anyways, its still a concept car, not an end product.

I would blame KIA for over squeezed Peter Schreyer, untill he is stressed up & out of fresh ideas, during the 13 years his in Audi (VW) he designed 6 cars, but 5 years in KIA he pushed out 9 cars, to ensured deadline r meet, so how else but copy & pasted (that why u can see the tiger nose simpky don’t fit into the Aston Martin One 77 inspired front).
Perhaps KIA try to maximised their investment on him during his contract tenure.

Mentari O Korea, i wouldn’t blame u on 1988 olympic era tastebud since ur name suggest it.
I would strongly advice u to look for Aston Martin One77 image b4 comment.
I wouldn’t mind if this is a works of some amateur, but we r talking about Peter Schreyer the man who designed Audi TT & New VW Beatles, although since he move to KIA his design has been copying Audi & VW here n there to create Cheap priced KIA car, but come on lah ! at lease not to the extend of copying 2 years old Aston Martin One77 & fit in that so called tiger nose.
