Advertisers often pick on a metaphorical theme to sell their wares. This 1955 example is one of series that draped wallpapers and fabrics around musical instruments – then stretched the English language to accommodate the message. #history #richardrobertsarchive #advertisement #archive #historypreserved #stockport #heritage #manchester #research #printadvertising

One of the things I really love about early music is the problem solving challenges of trying to understand how they performed on their instruments with often very little documentation, sometimes only ancient paintings. We know the medieval lute was plucked with a plectrum and the renaissance lute was plucked with the fingers. Before dropping the plectrum, they likely developed a hybrid technique to be able to play more than one string that had a gap between them and so couldn't be just strummed. I'm starting to learn that technique now and here is the result. https://lnkd.in/gWkHsC7X

Confucianism, again! Today, the Chinese are rediscovering their ancestral traditions after the big moment of maoist experimentation. Especially Confucianism has experienced a strong revival, which has tried to ascertain the ideal form of the rites and at the same time has seeked to find a compromised coordination with the different power agents in the respective localities where it wanted to be reimplemented. Following the analogy of music we present how there has actually been a continuity, albeit the interruption for the New, in the efforts of the Chinese to follow best the Way of Old.

1749 Leonhard Euler wrote (June 28) to the Rev. Mr. Caspar Wetstein, Chaplain to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, concerning the Gradual Approach of the Earth to the Sun. Read before the Royal Society Nov 2, 1749. *Philosophical Transactions In this letter, Euler informs Wetstein that the astronomer le Monnier is about to publish a translation of an Arabic manuscript that he (le Monnier) found in Leiden. Euler expresses his impatience to see this work since it contains observations that he has used in determining why the years have gotten shorter in length. He goes on to explain that the shortening of the year is the result of the resistance of the æther, and this resistance entails the gradual approach of the Earth to the Sun. As a result, the system of planets had a beginning and must also have an end. (Based on Eric Aiton's introduction to Opera Omnia Series II, Volume 31.) #onthisdayinmath

Morning LI family... I don't often talk about my musical artistry here (as a double decade touring MC). I'm not sure if because it usually is not as on pulse with whatever thought leadership direction or purpose I may be working on driving home, or I just have so much other 'ish going on I don't think to. Regardless as to why, this IS a Hip-Hop post. Hip-Hop: THE MOST SOCIALLY INFLUENCIAL MUSIC GENRE IN HISTORY! Today, as we sit on the precipice of what in my opinion REALLY is the epitome US election in my adult lifetime, I keep coming back to one central theme in my mind: VOICE, and how we use it. Hip-Hop, birthed from so many melting pot pressures of disenfranchised culture groups, a need for new musical expression, and a way to give VOICE to the least heard. Sitting back, looking at its ability to amalgam into all that it is today; a barometer for linguistic social norms, seriating any and all aspects of social cool... Its amazing to see what art looks like when it defies all odds... I digress... LinkedIn is such a great scrape of "Voice". We all are self-branded here, whether that is adhering to a company identity, or one completely carved out from a rope of individual thought... Its all "Voice". We're ALL modern day GRIOTS. What stories will we tell in our villages ? How do we speak up ? What is important to convey? MUENSTER x RAS KASS - GRIOT

The Art of Fugue (BWV 1080) by Johann Sebastian Bach’s mastery of the fugue—a complex and intricate form of musical composition. In a fugue, a main theme, known as the subject, is introduced by one voice and then imitated by other voices at different pitches, creating a rich, interwoven texture. As the piece unfolds, the subject is developed, transformed, and reintroduced, often using techniques like inversion, augmentation, and diminution, which vary the subject while maintaining its recognizable structure. Composed during the last decade of Bach’s life, The Art of Fugue is a collection of fourteen fugues and four canons, each based on a single principal theme in D minor. This thematic consistency creates a cohesive, meditative exploration of contrapuntal possibilities, progressively increasing in complexity. Bach didn’t specify an instrumentation for this work, allowing it to be interpreted on various instruments, from solo keyboards to full ensembles. The final fugue, Contrapunctus XIV, remains incomplete. The manuscript halts unexpectedly, leading to theories about whether Bach intended this or if the ending was lost. This unfinished state has inspired musicians and scholars to attempt completions, each bringing a unique perspective on how Bach might have concluded this composition. https://lnkd.in/dETfBfrF

Another version of this map which looks at sacred sites in Yellow and how they might create a planetary grid in blue.. I like that it starts to look like a musical scale with intervals and octaves… I researched where the planetary “chakras” were located. I plotted them then proceeded to try to find a grid that would form a relationship between them. I think the world needs more unified visions of the future where we all come together and build a better world. A grid may be a start? Then what are all the performances the grid can have? Providing abundant energy, food, places of communal gathering cultural exchange, spiritual practice etc… Come together

“The street has a very robust relation with cinema, music and theatre. Please note, that this industry is very historical in Egypt exceeding hundred year. The Egyptian street holds an unconscious deep- rooted relation with the golden screen. “ For more on this, check the newest additions on the blog Naguib Sorror : The Political Conflict in Action https://lnkd.in/dbrEwYuD
