Read. Learn. Create. Making tech look easy.

About us

We publish computer books for professionals--programmers, system administrators, designers, architects, managers and others. We think of our authors as the most valuable part of our business. We respect our readers and consider their interests and preferences every working day. Manning is a small, personal, old-world publisher where an author's opinion is sought and a reader's message is answered. Manning's focus is on computing titles at professional levels. We care about the quality of our books. We work with our authors to coax out of them the best writing they can produce. We consult with technical experts on book proposals and manuscripts, and we may use as many as two dozen reviewers in various stages of preparing a manuscript. The abilities of each author are nurtured to encourage him or her to write a first-rate book. Our books are designed without gimmicks. Their main goal is elegance and readability--we feel the two are often the same. Many of our books come with online reader support: authors answer the questions of their readers in our Web-based liveBook Discussion Forum: http://mng.bz/YP67

  • Are you attending FOSSY — Free and Open Source Yearly — this year? This Portland-based conference is featuring one of our own today at 5:30 PM PDT: Jimmy Angelakos. Formally, he’s presenting “RAGtime with Postgres: AI Power with pgvector and Retrieval-Augmented Generation.” Informally, it’s a deep dive into how Postgres connects with AI — and how RAG can make your queries a lot smarter. There’s even a live example to bring it all together! Details here: https://hubs.la/Q03zGCf20 Not in Portland? You can still grab his book at 45% off with code jafossy45: https://hubs.la/Q03zGD4l0

  • One of the best parts of a print book? Writing in the margins. Now you can do that in liveBook, too. Not in a pop-up or tucked-away tab, but right on the page. Drag them around, change colors, take notes just like you would with your favorite penciel (minus the smudges). Watch the quick demo below to see it in action. Want to see our other updates? Here’s the full playlist: https://hubs.la/Q03zCK7x0

  • Rohit Agarwal called AI Agents in Action a way to “unlock the power of MultiAgent LLMs — elevate chatbots from summarizing to mastering complex tasks with real-world insights.” Thinking about picking up the bestseller by Micheal Lanham? • Your Python script is already a web app. You just don't know it yet. Stop emailing CSV files to stakeholders. Stop explaining your analysis in Slack messages. Here's the 3-line transformation that changes everything: 𝚙𝚢𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚗 𝚒𝚖𝚙𝚘𝚛𝚝 𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚖𝚕𝚒𝚝 𝚊𝚜 𝚜𝚝 𝚜𝚝.𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎("# 𝙼𝚢 𝙰𝚗𝚊𝚕𝚢𝚜𝚒𝚜 𝙳𝚊𝚜𝚑𝚋𝚘𝚊𝚛𝚍") 𝚜𝚝.𝚙𝚕𝚘𝚝𝚕𝚢_𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚝(𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛_𝚎𝚡𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐_𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚝) That's it. Run 𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚖𝚕𝚒𝚝 𝚛𝚞𝚗 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛_𝚜𝚌𝚛𝚒𝚙𝚝.𝚙𝚢 and your analysis is now a live web application. What just happened? • Your messy Jupyter notebook → Professional dashboard • Your local Python script → Shareable web app • Your static charts → Interactive visualizations • Your one-time analysis → Real-time insights 5 minutes. 3 lines of code. Zero frontend experience required. The best part? This works with ANY Python analysis: → Pandas DataFrames become sortable tables → Matplotlib plots become interactive charts → Your algorithms become user-friendly interfaces Your stakeholders don't want your code. They want your insights. Stop being the bottleneck. Turn your analysis into applications they can actually use. Want to master this technique? Aneev Davis shows you exactly how in Build Python Web Apps With Streamlit: AI and Data Applications In Minutes (formerly Streamlit in Action), including advanced dashboards, AI-powered apps, and deployment strategies that'll make you look like a full-stack hero. Book link is in the comments 👇 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐛 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞?

  • Remember how I said liveBook had some pretty cool updates? Here’s another one: Test Yourself — interactive quizzes built right into the chapters, so you can check your understanding as you go. No tab-switching. No wondering if it’s actually sinking in. It’s like instant feedback while you read. Catch a quick walkthrough in the video below, or explore all the updates in this playlist: https://hubs.la/Q03znryP0
