Leash Will Not Work. Need Help

I recently got this game and I am at the first real zone where you have to battle that other faction or have them join you. Its really close to the beginning. I click on one of the scrolls and the god helpers tell me i need to select my creature's role. I do that... then they say to double click the action button where you want your creature to perform the role. This is the problem. It wont work. On the tutorial thing it shows them using the leash and when I push L nothing happens. I'm pretty stumped I've tried everything and I'm pretty sure i have to do it or i cant continue with the game.

That's strange for sure. Doesn't matter what I'm doing when I'm playing.. when I push "L" the leash always comes right up.

I just dont bother the leash instead i slap him for doin all that bad stuff
