The LEGO Shop Has Its Own Exclusive LEGO Deals for Amazon Prime Day, Including One of My Favorites

There are LEGO sets for adults that you won't find on sale at any other retailer.

LEGO Shop has just kicked off its very own LEGO Insiders Days event, which runs from July 8 to July 17, coinciding with Amazon Prime Day. What's great about this sale is that the deals I'm seeing are not replicated at any of the big box retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, or Walmart. You'll need to be a LEGO Insiders member to be eligible, but fortunately signing up is free, and you get rewards for each purchase. There are some big savings (up to 25% off) on several adult-themed LEGO sets that have, thus far, never been discounted, including one of my all-time favorite builds. You also get bonuses, like a free LEGO African Savanna Dioarama set with purchases of $150 or more.

$159.99 at LEGO Shop

The LEGO Milky Way Galaxy set #31212 is currently $199.99 elsewhere (even during Prime Day), but Insiders members can get it for $159.99, or 20% off the retail price. This massive 3,091-brick set was released last year; I've built it myself and I can say that it is one of my favorite builds of all-time. What's unique about this representation of our Milky Way galaxy is that the set employs the "greebling" technique. What that basically means is that random LEGO parts that you wouldn't expect to belong in a galaxy are used. The Milky Way build makes use of a colorful palette of bricks, something that's sorely missing in recent LEGO builds, and the layering makes the finished art piece look like a mesmerizing 3D display. I bought it at the full retail price and have no regrets.

The LEGO Spider-Man Daily Bugle 76178 is an impressively sized build measuring 32" tall, 10" wide, and 10" deep with a brick count of 3,789 pieces. This four-story rendition of the famous newspaper building is LEGO's third-largest Marvel set ever and comes with 25 iconic mini-figures from the Spider-Man universe, including Doctor Octopus, Spider-Man, Venom, Miles Morales, Spider-Ham, Green Goblin, Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Mysterio, Sandman, Robbie Robertson, and even some characters unique to this set like Blade the vampire hunter, J. Jonah Jameson, Black Cat, Daredevil, and Punisher.

This build is certainly stands out as being the only set in this sale with an include battery box and working motor piece. The lighthouse build stands 21.5" tall and has a working rotating light and custom-designed Fresnel lens elements. As a nice added touch, the lights inside the cottage at the base of the lighthouse also turn on and off. If you factor in all the working elements as well as the motor and battery box, a per-brick price of 10.8 cents is actually a solid value.

Update: It's now cheaper on Amazon.

If you're a collector LEGO NASA builds, then this one is definitely for you. The landing vehicle is comprised of 1,913 pieces and measures 15" long, 10" wide, and about 5.5" tall. This is a Technic set, so it would look especially good when paired with the LEGO NASA Mars Rover Perserverence. The rover features working steering and suspension, faux battery pack, heating and cooling elements, comms, and a bevy of scientific tools.

Respect to any hardcore LEGO enthusiast who purchases this LEGO Technic set with the intent on building it. Technic construction vehicles are some of the most complicated sets that LEGO produces, and they're definitely not for the faint of heart. This particular model consists of "only" 2,883 pieces, which seems low for the whopping $700 retail price. That's mainly because this is a motorized LEGO set and includes two smart hubs and six large motors to power the articulated functions via an app on your smartphone. This is also one of the tallest LEGO sets, measuring 38" high from top to bottom. This set goes on sale rarely and only during special events like Black Friday or Prime Day.

I absolutely love LEGO's Icons and Creator Expert vehicles, even more so than the Technic builds. Besides looking more realistic, I think they exude a lot more personality. For example, the LEGO Icons Land Rover Classic Defender has the usual features you'd expect in a detailed LEGO vehicle build, like the functional steering, opening doors, and working suspension. But it also has unique customization options you won't find in the cookie-cutter Technic builds, including optional attachable off-road accessories like a roll cage, fire extinguisher, jerry cans, tool box, working winch, mudguards, and traction plates. You can even decide whether you want your car to be a left-hand or right-hand drive vehicle, whether it runs off diesel or petrol, and three different hood options.
