As a frontrunner in gemmology and pioneer in the science of origin determination, the Gubelin Gem Lab continuously and systematically pursues scientific research. The insights gained by these research activities allow us to continue and enhance our services for the benefit of the gemstone trade and retail clients. Being at the forefront in the field of origin determination, we regularly visit gemstone mines all over the world, from the heights of the Himalayas to the planes of East Africa and the deep shafts of the Mogok Stone Tract in Burma. We visit several dozen mines a year on average and collect hundreds of samples for the Gubelin Reference Collection. Furthermore, we are committed to sharing the knowledge we amass with fellow gemmologists and the public, which is why we publish the results of our research projects in gemmological and mineralogical journals, as well as trade magazines.
