Whatever is stated in a Gubelin Gem Lab report is the result of our analysis. Our interpretations and final conclusions are based solely on our observation and investigation of the item in question. Gubelin gemmologists are true professionals, both in terms of training and attitude. They scrutinise every aspect of an item entrusted to us to determine the identity, authenticity and – where possible – origin of a gem.
The tasks have grown ever-more challenging and complex since the early days of the Gubelin Gem Lab in the first half of the last century. Dozens of new mines are open every year. New synthetic gems are constantly being invented, as are treatments designed to enhance the appearance of a gemstone – treatments increasingly tricky to detect. We manage to keep abreast of these challenges thanks to continuous investment in our people and their skills, and in highly sophisticated analytical tools. Every year we invest in new methods and technologies to ensure we can detect the latest treatments and spot the latest provenance.
