Welcome to the Gubelin Gem Lab

The origins of the Gubelin Gem Lab go back to the early part of the 19th century. In the 1920s, the Gubelin Company, a firm that had been specialising in high-end jewellery since the 1850s, recognised the need for a broad and well-founded knowledge of the gemstones it was mounting in its own items of jewellery. The laboratory’s standard of excellence and tireless devotion to the science of gemmology soon came to be rewarded with international esteem and recognition.
 
Developments within the gemstone and jewellery industry over the past century have amplified the necessity and importance of our laboratory. We face the steady stream of challenges with determination and dedication, all the while pursuing the traditions of the Gubelin Gem Lab.
 
Our team is composed of highly trained and experienced professionals who share a passion for the treasures released by Mother Earth and entrusted to our hands by our clients. We combine state-of-the-art analytical techniques, expertise and extensive practical skills when it comes to interpreting gemmological and geological data and rendering a professional opinion on diamonds, coloured stones and pearls. As a gemmological laboratory, we confine ourselves to the analysis and interpretation of the scientific characteristics of gemstones. We do not engage in any commercial aspect of the gemstone and jewellery trade whatsoever. We are committed to contributing to and maintaining a healthy and sustainable gemstone industry, and it is our mission to protect our clients by providing the trade with accurate and relevant information on gemstones.
