University league tables rank institutions and subject areas using a variety of criteria including entry standards, research assessment, student/staff ratio, drop-out rate, student satisfaction, degree classifications and graduate destinations. Each organisation that publishes league tables uses its own methodology which means that institutional ranks can differ between league tables. The Strategic Planning team analyse the various league tables in order to understand their methodology and to identify the reasons for any changes in Exeter's position. Detailed analysis of the main domestic league tables is available below.

Exeter's position has improved in the three university league tables published so far this year and with the exception of the Complete University Guide, Exeter has consolidated a top 10 position. Many of the measures used to determine rankings are consistent across the league tables. The highest performing metrics for Exeter include Completion (drop-out rates), Teaching, Student Satisfaction and Good Honours. Performance is also relatively high in other metrics although there is still room for further improvement, particularly with Student to Staff Ratios. More detailed explanations can be found in the analysis documents in the table below.
