Access to JSTOR helps students develop research skills, critical thinking, and information literacy.

 

JSTOR provides students with exposure to peer reviewed scholarly research and prepares them for their future studies, enables teachers to incorporate important scholarly literature into their classes, and provides librarians with a reference resource of over 1,500 academic journals and other content.

Archival Journals

The Secondary Schools Collection provides secondary schools the opportunity to expose their students to a resource that they will encounter at university. Further, it provides teachers and librarians the opportunity to incorporate scholarly literature into their classes and reference work.  Secondary Schools gain access to the Secondary Schools Collection—all Arts & Sciences, Life Sciences Collections content, the 19th Century British Pamphlets Collection, and the Aluka Collections—for one set of fees. This includes:

Schools may also choose to add the Ireland Collection, current issues of  journals in the Current Scholarship Program, and books in the Books at JSTOR program to their JSTOR participation.

Current Journals

JSTOR now makes a growing number of publishers to make current journal issues available via the Current Scholarship Program. Subscriptions are available for single journals as well as collections of titles, and some journals offer tiered pricing for secondary schools.

Primary Sources

Secondary schools can participate in all JSTOR multi-disciplinary collections for one set of fees, thereby providing access to millions of articles and primary source materials. Disciplinary coverage is broad, with strong concentrations in art and art history, archaeology, film, history, language and literature, music, philosophy, and religion. Science coverage is extensive with strong collections of materials in aquatic science, biology, botany, developmental & cell biology, ecology, paleontology, and zoology.

Primary source content in the Secondary Schools Collection includes 19th Century British Pamphlets, African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes, and Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa.

Books

Books at JSTOR makes scholarly monographs from a number of leading university presses and other academic publishers available on the JSTOR platform. Books are cross-searchable with the journal articles on JSTOR, and flexible purchase options for institutions are available.

There are three JSTOR secondary school classes: Schools I, Schools II, and Schools III. In order to determine the JSTOR classification for any secondary school, our primary indicator is a school's college enrollment rate (the percentage of a school's most recent class of graduates going on to post-secondary education). This percentage may be obtained from the school's guidance office. Please submit the Secondary School Feedback Form to obtain your school's JSTOR Classification.

 

 

 

For each JSTOR Collection institutions will pay two fees to participate, an Archive Capital Fee (ACF) and an Annual Access Fee (AAF). These fees vary depending upon the JSTOR Classification of your school.

  • Archive Capital Fee (ACF): The ACF is a one-time fee that has two purposes: it is used both to help underwrite the costs of digitizing new collections and to ensure that JSTOR can continue migrating data and software into the future.
  • Annual Access Fee (AAF): The AAF is intended to cover the ongoing costs of maintenance, user services, and administration required to support the enterprise. The AAF is pro-rated in the first year and payable for every year of access.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS COLLECTION FEES

The JSTOR Participation Fees below provide access to all Arts & Sciences Archive Collections, Life Sciences, Business III, 19th Century British Pamphlets, African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes, and Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa. Separate fees are required for the Ireland Collection, the Current Scholarship Program, and Books at JSTOR.

IRELAND

The Ireland Collection, developed in cooperation with Queen's University Belfast, is an interdisciplinary collection of journals and other materials. It will contain a minimum of 75 journals, including journals with moving walls between 1 and 5 years and ceased journals from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Over 200 monographs and 2,500 manuscript pages will also be included. Complementing JSTOR's existing collections, the Ireland Collection adds titles and resources across the arts, humanities, and sciences in disciplines such as music, art, history, literature, archaeology, mathematics, and biology. The content is international in scope, while also providing a rich focus on Ireland. The Ireland Collection was created with funding from the JISC Digitisation Programme.

IRELAND COLLECTION FEES

The Ireland Collection is being completed with funding from the JISC Digitisation Programme, which allows this collection to be made freely available to non-commercial educational and research institutions in Ireland and the United Kingdom. BECOMING A PARTICIPANT

Please read the terms and conditions for JSTOR participation. If you are comfortable agreeing to them on behalf of your institution, then please:

  1. Download the JSTOR Participation Agreement for Secondary Schools and make two copies of it.
  2. Fill out the Network Verification Form online so we can establish the best methods of access for your institution.
  3. Complete the participation agreement form with all contact information and collections information and sign it.
  4. Fax a copy of the signed participation agreement to (212) 358-6499 or email a scanned copy to participation@jstor.org.
  5. Mail the two completed and signed participation agreements to JSTOR Outreach & Participation Services in the New York office.

ADDING COLLECTIONS

  1. Download the JSTOR Collections Rider for Secondary Schools and make two copies of it.
  2. Complete the Rider and sign it.
  3. Mail the two completed and signed Riders to JSTOR Outreach & Participation Services in the New York office.
