Branch History
The Florissant Public Library opened in rooms above the
Citizen's Bank of Florissant, 699 St. Francois, with a donated
collection of 1,005 books. In 1942, the City took over operation of the
library. In the fall of 1955, the library moved to new quarters in the
Florissant City Hall. Although recently constructed, the building soon
proved too small for the growing library. In 1959, the library moved to
the renovated former City Hall and Fire Station.
In February of 1964 A new library building was under construction. In
July of 1964 the City of Florissant Public Library merged with the St.
Louis County Library District and circulated 197,961 items.
