TinyMCE 3.2 Released

This release includes some new functionality so we have jumped from 3.1.x to 3.2.

The biggest change is how text styles are done, previous versions used font elements internally but this new version will instead use span elements internally it also enables you to have more than 7 font sizes to pick from. This logic is also applied to the font family and font color drop downs since it will fix various browser quirks.

Here are more details on the new font support:
http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/Tin … font_sizes

Another thing that we added is the ability to maintain font styles when you press return. Only IE had this feature in previous releases but this will now work the same way in all browsers.
http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/Tin … eep_styles

We also added a new element_format option this enables you to switch the way TinyMCE produced elements to an non XHTML output. We are still in the XHTML is better camp so it's set to xhtml by default. smile
http://wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/Tin … ent_format

We also as always fixed many bugs and issues.

Best regards,
Spocke - Main developer of TinyMCE

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

Hey Spocke - I was trying to upgrade from version 3.1.1 to 3.2 and got that download and setup - then when I tried to load the page, I saw an error, which I believe stems from using the spellchecker (version 1.0.5 (php)):
tinyMCE.importPluginLanguagePack is not a function();

called from:

tinyMCE.importPluginLanguagePack('spellchecker','en,fr,sv,nn,nb');

in /plugins/spellchecker/editor_plugin.js

Do you know why this is happening?

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

Oh, the link was incorrect it pointed to 1.0.5 that is the last release for the 2.x branch of TinyMCE. I've now corrected this misstake on the download page. So download the 2.0.2 version instead it will work with 3.2. Thanks for pointing this out.

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

Is it just me, or my FF3? The examples shipped with the 3.2 release get JavaScript errors when I click insert/edit image (happens with any other dialogue, too)...

Errors read something like this (first is translated from my German FF3):

Firebug Console in Firefox3 wrote:

"Denied reading the property Window.tinymce"
[Break on this error]  tinymce = w.tinymce;
tiny_mce_popup.js (Linie 20)

tinyMCEPopup.editor is undefined
[Break on this error] var themeBaseURL = tinyMCEPopup.editor.b...mes/' + tinyMCEPopup.getParam("theme"));
form_utils.js (Linie 10)

this.params is undefined
[Break on this error] var v = this.params[n];

I can't reproduce these errors in non-Gecko browsers (ie. IE, Opera, Safari) nor in any browser using the live example on the moxiecode test page.

Don't know why my German FF3 spells "Window.tinymce" with a capital "W" ... found nothing of the kind in any .js files.

Another thing: The dump.php page seems to have moved... at least clicking the "submit" buttons in the examples leads to an error page here on tinymce.moxiecode.com. Try for yourselves: http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/dump.php?example=true

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

It's a security sandbox thing. Run the local examples though a real web server and it will work just fine. We need to change the dump urls for future releases. Thanks for pointing this out.

I'm not sure, but I  think Firebug is the problem.

I've been having similar problems with 3.1x and images on Firefox 3, but only since I installed Firebug.

Disabling Firebug and restarting Firefox with it disabled, everything seems to work OK.

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

I just updated to the new version. But there's still the bug when copying from an Office 2007 document into the "Paste from Word" box with all the extra XML junk coming across. I was actually the one that posted that bug submission.

I created a new Word document in Word 2007. Wrote some text. Saved it as the default filetype (.docx). Closed it. Opened it back up. Pressed CTRL+A to select all...click the Paste from Word button on the TinyMCE toolbar. Did CTRL+V and hit update. Switch over the HTML view and you get this:

Code:

<p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> Normal   0               false   false   false      EN-US   X-NONE   X-NONE </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> </xml><![endif]--><!--  --><!--[if gte mso 10]> <mce:style><!   /* Style Definitions */  table.MsoNormalTable     {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";     mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;     mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;     mso-style-noshow:yes;     mso-style-priority:99;     mso-style-qformat:yes;     mso-style-parent:"";     mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;     mso-para-margin-top:0in;     mso-para-margin-right:0in;     mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt;     mso-para-margin-left:0in;     line-height:115%;     mso-pagination:widow-orphan;     font-size:11.0pt;     font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";     mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;     mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;     mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";     mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;     mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;     mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;} --> <!--[endif]--></p>
<p>Here's a test Word document for copying and pasting through TinyMCE into the Paste from Word button on the toolbar. Watch all the XML junk come across in the HTML view of TinyMCE.</p>
<p>Thanks</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

I then resaved that same Word document as a "legacy" Word 97 - 2003 (.doc) filetype. Ran the same process from closing the file and reopening it, copy/paste, etc and got this result:

Code:

<p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> Normal   0               false   false   false      EN-US   X-NONE   X-NONE                                                     MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> </xml><![endif]--><!--  --><!--[if gte mso 10]> <mce:style><!   /* Style Definitions */  table.MsoNormalTable     {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";     mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;     mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;     mso-style-noshow:yes;     mso-style-priority:99;     mso-style-qformat:yes;     mso-style-parent:"";     mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;     mso-para-margin:0in;     mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;     mso-pagination:widow-orphan;     font-size:11.0pt;     font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";     mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;     mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;     mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";     mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;     mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;     mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;     mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";     mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} --> <!--[endif]--></p>
<p>Here's a test Word document for copying and pasting through TinyMCE into the Paste from Word button on the toolbar. Watch all the XML junk come across in the HTML view of TinyMCE.</p>
<p>Thanks</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

There's some slight variations in what gets copied over...but that's what I get still. There's also an extra <p>&nbsp;</p> that's coming across at the very end of the HTML that doesn't exist in the Word docs.

Thanks

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

You need to use the paste from word button otherwise the logic won't get executed.

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

Hi,
has someone noticed that the dropdowns e.g. font-size and font applys new span elements surrounding the text instead of updating existing element?

example (from your webpage), set font size three times and I get the following xhtml:

Code:

<p>&nbsp;<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">TinyMCE is a platform independent web based Javascript HTML <strong>WYSIWYG</strong> editor control released as Open Source under LGPL by Moxiecode Systems AB. It has the ability to convert HTML TEXTAREA fields or other HTML elements to editor instances. TinyMCE is very easy to integrate into other Content Management Systems. </span></span></span></p>
<p>We recommend <a href="http://www.getfirefox.com" target="_blank">Google</a></p>

Should it not be:

Code:

<p>&nbsp;<span style="font-size: small;">TinyMCE is a platform independent web based Javascript HTML <strong>WYSIWYG</strong> editor control released as Open Source under LGPL by Moxiecode Systems AB. It has the ability to convert HTML TEXTAREA fields or other HTML elements to editor instances. TinyMCE is very easy to integrate into other Content Management Systems. </span></p>
<p>We recommend <a href="http://www.getfirefox.com" target="_blank">Google</a></p>

Edit: Tested in IE7
Thanks

@spydrlink: It seems to be an IE specific issue. This has now been resolved in the SVN trunk.

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

Hi Spocke & Afraithe,

Thanks for your continued hard work in putting out new releases!

The Paste as Plain Text piece only seemed to incorporate some snippets of the fixed (patched) code I posted in SourceForge.  It is still broken, and continues to throw extra </p> elements into the content, as well as a few other buggy behaviors.

I noticed that there is also an extra Delete command left in the middle of the code, so there are two deletes done every time Paste as Plain Text is clicked.

I would suggest using the entire _insertText() method in my patched file, exactly as written.  It delivers precisely the functionality described in the wiki, does not insert extra "junk" tags, and properly inserts pasted content in the middle of existing content blocks, if the user decides to do that.  I have also created some efficiencies to make the code more streamlined and performant.

I am fearful that if snippets are used from it, the same problems that have been there for a long time will continue to exist.

The SourceForge patch ID is 1989396. (Link to patch)

Thanks!

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

@speednet: I was going though your patch and found that fix number 6 changed the behavior of how the original implementation work. So I couldn't include it and since producing BR elements in the editor will break all kinds of things lists etc I couldn't include it.

I also been planing to rewrite the whole plugin since it's currently a bit of an mess. And these is lots of new cool stuff that can be done to it. I've noticed the paragraph problem etc and I will look into your code for the new paste plugin. This plugin will work a lot like the simple paste plugin and some ideas from Felix. So basically it will be a mix of your, mine, felix and kevins logic. smile

Discussions about the simple paste plugin:

Re: TinyMCE 3.2 Released

I think there is a FF (I have fireBug installed) issue when pasting from a word document and using the paste plugin in TinyMCE 3.2.0.1

current paste plugin code:
content = content.replace(/<!--([\s\S]*?)-->|<style>[\s\S]*?<\/style>/g, "");  // Word comments

should be:
content = content.replace(/<!--([\s\S]*?)-->|&amp;lt;!--([\s\S]*?)--&amp;gt;|<style>[\s\S]*?<\/style>/g, "");  // Word comments

I think FF encodes the comments when pasting from word.

I'm not so sure I would do that.  You may actually end up removing desireable characters from the pasted content.  For example, if someone pastes an HTML snippet from a Word doc, inlcuding an HTML comment, you may remove the legitimate text.  (I am saying this without going through the steps of testing it, although it makes logical sense to me.)
