How to use AI-based form field detection for creating templates in BoldSign?
BoldSign introduces a powerful new feature: AI-based form field detection, designed to simplify and accelerate the process of setting up templates. This feature is exclusively available when creating templates and intelligently detects and places form fields in your uploaded PDF or Word documents.
Supported form fields
The AI automatically places the following field types:
- Signature
- Textbox
- Date Signed
- Checkbox
- Radio Button
How to use AI-based form field detection
Follow these steps to use AI for placing form fields in a template:
- From the Dashboard, click
Create New
and selectCreate New Template
.
- On the Prepare template page, enter the template title and description in the respective fields.
- Upload files in the Add File(s) section and specify roles in the Add Role(s) section.
- Complete any additional required fields and click
Next
to proceed to the Configure fields page.
- On the Configure fields page, locate and click the
Place Fields with AI
option.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Click
Place Fields with AI
to confirm and proceed.
- AI-detected fields are marked with a
✨
icon. You can move, resize, or delete these fields to fit your document’s layout. - Customize individual fields by clicking them to access their settings. For a template with multiple recipient roles, you can change or reassign fields to a different signer in the Assigned to section.
- Right-click any AI-detected field to access the context menu, which includes:
Select All Fields
: Selects all fields on the current page.Select Similar Fields
: Selects all fields of the same type.Delete AI Fields
: Deletes all AI-detected fields with one click.
- Review the AI form fields and proceed to save the template by clicking the
Save Template
button.
If AI-detected fields already exist, you’ll be notified before rerunning detection.
How AI-based form field detection works
BoldSign’s AI analyzes your document’s structure to identify areas requiring input. It uses patterns such as underlines, boxes, and labels to determine field placement.

- Auto Placement: Automatically adds appropriate fields.
- User Control: Allows you to adjust or remove fields as needed.
AI-powered field detection streamlines your workflow but may not always identify fields accurately. Always review and adjust the detected fields to ensure they meet your document’s requirements.
