Not an outlier. This start up thing can get best of some of us. People who try to be helpful would tell you that you are not alone, though you feel very much alone and isolated, even in the middle of family or social gathering. At the time it made me listen to Fade to Black all day long when I was alone and somehow it helped to get through the day. Then there is that lingering, crushing guilt, which I could definitely relate. Sincerely hope you can find forgiveness for yourself.
Agree. I had to calculate the cost of running and upgrading an existing HPC infrastructure that was approaching it's end of life vs cloud. In house HPC beat cloud cost in almost all scenarios.
Enterprise app is designed typically for CFO's who approve the purchase but never use them. I used to be enterprise app PM. Not the most pleasant experience. They didn't care about UI/UX. We created vanilla version of the app and the team ended up working mostly with consultant (professional services) who interacted directly with end users and they were paid a lot for customizing the app.
Follow your hobby or curiosity, not other people's advice. You'll probably make less money, but is that the most important thing for you now?
I started helping my wife baking as well as setting up business selling baked goods online and at the farmers market while zooming with my tech friends on the other side of the planet at night and helping them at the margin with their new startup.
The baking business has been growing that demand is far surpassing our capacity. Right now having hard time hiring people to help in the kitchen. My knee is hurting because of standing and walking in the kitchen for at least 12 hrs non stop at least 5 days a week for the last few months. It's been highly therapeutic and very satisfying though.
His public anti-china stance is just a show. Many of his family business dealings are total opposite. Moreover, his presidency is good for China. Fomenting domestic division, weakening law and order, constant attack on the constitution, weakening alliances, being cozy with dictators, on and on, only benefit china, russia and other dictators.
This is confirmed by John Bolton (I guess if you believe what he wrote in his book that the President attempted in court to block).
Trump “turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability and pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win. He stressed the importance of farmers and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome.”
Great post. Thanks. As CEO of the company how did you deal with the extreme stress during the most difficult days of Justin.TV/Twitch while at the same time keeping the team motivated?
Thanks for being honest about it. I think founders are masochists. We have to put up with tons of struggles, uncertainties, rejections, setbacks, hypocrisies, backstabbing, betrayals, slanders, deceptions, agonies, burn-out, blood, sweat, and tears while trying to keep positive tone on the outside to keep the team motivated and stick to the vision and mission and not lose investor's confidence. Just thought I asked if you can share what worked in your experience. Thanks.
I can't say that I know your pain, but I can sort of feel your pain. Simply because I've been there done that. Taking advice from HN, no matter how well meaning, may or may not help, it may even frustrate you more. Best thing to do is to step back. Find a way to clear your head. A long hike worked for me. Even washing dishes. You may have your own thing that works for you. Do that. Talk it out with someone you trust or who is willing to listen. You can talk with your wife later when you have your bearing back. Heck if you are in bay area and need a sounding board, you can ping me. Keep in mind though, the best answer probably will eventually come only from yourself.
