Welcome to the LSF

At the London School of Furniture Making, we’re not just a school – we’re a community of craftspeople who love working in wood. Whether you’re a novice eager to get going or a seasoned maker looking to refine your woody skills, our school provides the perfect environment.

News Update

After eleven years in a shared studio space, we are moving to a self-contained workspace in bustling Camden, a short walk from the famous market.

From 1st August, our new home will be Arch 21, Hartland Road Arches, London NW18HR.

Why Choose Us?

Expert Instructors: Our team comprises skilled makers with decades of experience, ready to share their knowledge and guide you through the complex world of furniture making.

We believe in learning by doing. Our courses emphasise practical, hands-on instruction, allowing you to build your expertise and confidence from the very beginning.

Small Class Sizes: Enjoy personalised attention with our small class sizes. This ensures that every student receives the guidance and support they need to develop.

Comprehensive Courses: From foundational woodworking skills to advanced joinery techniques, our courses cover related subjects, providing a well-rounded introduction to the craft.  Joinery, fitted furniture, steam bending, saw making, turning, machining, boxmaking, and timber technology are just a few of the classes we run.

Flexible Courses: Whether you’re a weekend hobbyist or have been in the game for a while, our flexible course schedules accommodate various lifestyles. Choose from weekend intensives, weekday classes, evenings, private one-to-one lessons, and online courses with our partner Domestika.

We Live Next Door to Fallen & Felled: Fallen and Felled are a timber merchant offering a sustainable alternative to buying imported timber. They mill felled urban trees and turn them into high quality timber.

We Embrace Neurodiversity: Recognising that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching and learning, we welcome input from our students on how they learn best.

Ready to start making furniture? Look at our courses, meet our instructors, and if you have any questions, please get in touch.

I loved the joinery course. Wanted to say thank you again for teaching me some really useful skills and for making me fall in love with Japanese pull saws! As soon as I can save up for the next course I’ll be back

Chris Schwarz suggested I invite Helen Welch to be interviewed for the Lost Art Press blog. “She is a “[bleep]ing badass,” he wrote. “A tool nerd. Funny and sharp as hell.”

Nancy Hiller, Lost Art Press

Honestly thought you both create an environment for friendly but very challenging accelerated learning – a supreme feat.

Helen, I’ve been meaning to write to you for some time to thank you for your kindness and support towards my son. He really enjoyed the course and thought you are an excellent teacher and I can tell you were able to enthuse him about all things wood!

Jo

Please pass on my thanks to Sam too, he has a good blend of technical skills with an easy manner which made the course welcoming and informative.
