Learn more about our new contributors and what motivates them!
Ahmed Gaper is pursuing a B.S. in Computer Engineering. He’s passionate about software development and performance optimization, underpinned by a strong foundation in data structures & algorithms and core CS disciplines such as operating systems, networking and databases.
I’m eager to gain hands-on experience through real-world projects, applying everything I’ve learned to make a tangible impact. Google Summer of Code (GSoC) opened the door for me. Ever since I discovered it, participating has been a dream, and I know it will help me achieve my goals. Learning about Accord and collaborating with the team has only made that dream more exciting: the project’s vision is inspiring, and everyone is both supportive and approachable. In particular, working on the Concerto linter will allow me to put my skills to work immediately, tackle new challenges, and continue growing as a developer.
Akshat Batra is a passionate technologist with a background in Computer Applications and Business Administration, holding certifications in Data Science and AI from Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar. He is a budding entrepreneur and AI enthusiast with deep interest in LLMs. His first venture was selected to be funded by the Ministry of IT, Govt. of India. He pivoted, and is now working on a SaaS product, currently in stealth.
For me, GSoC is more than just coding—it’s about collaboration, learning, and creating something that makes an impact. I delved into the Accord Project while working on a project and felt an immediate connection with the mission. This summer, my focus will be on enhancing the Template Playground with AI-assisted template generation, auto-complete suggestions, and intelligent explanations for Concerto models. By leveraging LLMs, I aim to streamline the user experience and make Accord Project tools more accessible to developers and legal professionals alike. I’m looking forward to collaborating with the community and helping shape the future of smart legal contracts!
Anshu Kumar, a 2nd year student from IIIT Ranchi, is passionate about open-source development, clean code practices, and building reliable software systems. Let’s hear what he has to say about GSoC and the Accord Project.
GSoC has been both a dream and a personal goal of mine for a long time. I’m deeply passionate about open-source development, not just as a way to sharpen my skills, but as a powerful means to create real-world impact through collaboration and innovation. What really motivates me about the Accord Project is the intersection of law and code which is a space I find both fascinating and impactful, and I’m thrilled to contribute to a project that’s actively shaping the future of smart legal contracts. This summer, I’ll be working on the “Specification Conformance Tests” project. The project aims to migrate from the current testing framework Mocha to Vitest which will enhance the performance, execution time and debugging capabilities. This project aligns closely with my interests in software quality, testing, and developer tools and I’m looking forward to an amazing summer of learning, collaboration, and contribution!
Asmit is a third-year Computer Engineering undergrad at Pulchowk Campus, IOE. He’s interested in building real-world, impactful projects, either in the world of web development or through machine learning integration.
From getting to know about GSoC to being accepted as a GSoC contributor for the Accord Project, this has been a big milestone for me. I’m really grateful to the Accord Project team and mentors for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to work on the Decorator Command Set JSON <-> YAML converter. I really like the Accord Project’s goal of shaping the future of smart legal contracts, and I’m happy to be a part of this team. I’m super excited to contribute with the support and guidance of industry-level experts.
Mahesh Patil completed his BTech in Computer Science from Symbiosis Institute of Technology. He has interned at Tech Mahindra, where he worked on IoT and AI research.
When I first started in open source, I was just 10 months in and extremely hesitant to contribute. I still remember the joy of getting my first pull request merged. It was a turning point that gave me the confidence to keep going, and I haven’t looked back since. This year, I contributed crucial performance improvements and features to the Template Playground. I’m genuinely excited about the opportunity to be selected for GSoC and to make a meaningful impact through the Accord Project, while continuing to grow both individually and as part of a team.
This year’s projects will be mentored by active Accord Project maintainers and contributors.
Jamie Shorten will be leading the mentoring effort to add Linter for Concerto, assisted by Sanket Shevkar.
Niall Roche, Timothy Tavarez and Diana Lease will be mentoring the project for Incorporating AI into Template Playground
Ertugrul Karademir will be the lead mentor for the Specification Conformance Tests project with help from Dan Selman.
Sanket Shevkar will be guiding the development of the Decorator Command Set JSON <-> YAML Converter with support from Dan Selman.
Timothy Tavarez and Diana Lease will be guiding the Migration of Template Playground to use Tailwind CSS & Playground Redesign.
Diana Lease, Matt Roberts and Sanket Shevkar are this year’s organization administrators, making sure things run smoothly and that mentors and contributors have the support they need to have a successful summer of coding!
We are all very excited to welcome the new contributors to the Accord Project community and can’t wait to see the outcomes of these three great projects!
